Today I woke raring to go. I was up before Katie, waiting for her to stir so we could try to get the BM in the toilet (she usually does a BM before I get her in the morning.) I successfully got her to sit on the Dora toilet insert right away, and kept her there as long as I could, but nothing came out. I put the diaper back on. We had purchased her some Elmo underwear, but it was not even padded. I felt like she should wear something other than a diaper, but I wasn't about to have her running around the house in that.
Well, we went about our day. I saw her begin the BM, but was nursing the baby so I couldn't get to her fast enough. I did break off the nursing session to scoop Katie up and rush her to the toilet, where she saw her poop for what I think was the first time. I took off her diaper and she began to cry almost hysterically, "Poop! Poop!" I quickly assured her that everything was ok and got a fresh diaper on her.
For the rest of the day, I tried to get her to sit on the toilet as much as I could. She was extremely compliant. Every hour I asked to to sit, and kept her there as long as I could with books, songs, anything I could do. Finally at the end of the night, we got a tinkle in the toilet. She looked as surprised as I felt, but I did a happy-jumping-cheering dance around the kitchen and then she looked very proud.
Over all, a very successful first day.
